Biotechnology at TU Berlin Studies in Biotechnology at Technische Universität Berlin are mainly set in an engineering direction and structured into two phases: a six semester Bachelor- and a four semester Masterprogram. Both programs are organized in modules, which are ordered in thematically related courses (seminars, lectures, exercises). The amount of required work for each module is equaled in so called “Leistungspunkte (LP) which followed the European Credit Transfer Systems (ECTS). In addition to the theoretical studies, internships in form of a general professional practical training as well as in industrial companies specifically are required. For further information please see the detailed examination regulations for Biotechnology at Technsiche Univesität Berlin.   Medical Biotechnology The term Medical Biotechnology (also known as Red Biotechnology) sums up all forms of biotechnological processes, that aim at being implemented into medical fields of exercise. The main occupational area lies at the interface of engineering, natural sciences and medicine. The significance of the field is reflected in the fact, that all sorts of companies, which classify themselves in the vast spectrum of Biotechnology, are mostly oriented towards medical strategies. The main focus of studies within Medical Biotechnology lies with medical diagnostics and regenerative medicine, in which the most relevant advancements are achieved. It is within this realm within the field of Medical Biotechnology that the most far reaching shifts in scientific knowledge and practice occur. Thus, to secure an adequate as well as practical education, interdisciplinary cooperations have been established ranging from Charité to the Deutsche Rheumforschungszentrum Berlin (DRFZ), the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Fraunhofer IZI and the various Max Planck Institutes.
